To use the app, follow these steps:

Scan Feature: Take a picture of the front (front only) of any food or personal care item. Our AI will identify the product and brand, then reference its training data to gather all relevant information about the product, including its ingredients and nutritional value. Based on this information, the app provides a holistic health grade. This feature works best when the product’s name and brand are visible on the packaging. While the app can analyze items without labels or brands, such as a plate of food, it is most accurate when the name and brand are present. However, it is still accurate for fresh produce like fruits and vegetables, even without a brand name.

Manual Search: For items without packaging, such as franchise foods from places like In-N-Out Burger, Sweetgreen, or Chipotle, use the manual search feature. Simply type in the name of the restaurant or specific menu item (e.g., “In-N-Out Burger” or “Sweetgreen Harvest Bowl”) to receive a health grade. Even with franchise foods, you can take a picture of the item without a label, and the app will still work. However, it is less accurate compared to when you type in the name or take a picture of something with a name and brand.

Log the items you consume. Receive rewards and track your progress over time!

Our app leverages advanced AI technology to evaluate and grade both food and personal care products, offering you a holistic health perspective. Here’s how it’s tailored for each category:

– Food Items: We assess them based on ingredient safety, environmental impact, and nutritional quality. This ensures that you’re informed not just about the healthiness of the food, but also about its ecological footprint.

– Personal Care Items: These are graded considering ingredient safety, effectiveness, and environmental impact. It’s our way of helping you choose products that are not only good for you but good for the planet as well.

Customization to Fit Your Needs:

Understanding that health is personal, our app allows you to adjust the weighting between these categories to suit your priorities. Additionally, our AI is designed to consider your specific dietary preferences and unwanted ingredients, ensuring the product grade is as relevant to you as possible. By integrating these considerations, our app aims to empower you with comprehensive insights into the products you use and consume, making health-conscious decisions easier than ever.

Our application is designed to provide highly accurate estimations for the vast majority of products. It utilizes advanced AI technology to analyze ingredients, nutritional information, and other relevant details based on extensive training data. However, it is important to understand that the application is not perfect and the results are estimations. In some instances, the AI may encounter specific products that it is unfamiliar with. When this happens, the AI may generalize based on available information, potentially leading to less accurate estimations. This can occur because the AI model has extensive knowledge of most, but not all products, and overgeneralization may result. We are committed to continuously improving our AI model by updating its database and refining its algorithms to minimize these occurrences. While you can trust the estimations for the vast majority of products, we recommend using the information as a guide and considering it alongside other sources, particularly for products with uncommon ingredients. If you have any concerns about the accuracy of an estimation, please contact our support team for assistance.

When our AI evaluates a product, the initial grades it assigns can include pluses and minuses (e.g., B-, C+). However, for simplicity, our app displays only the main letter grades: A, B, C, D, and F. This means that a B- is rounded up to a B, and a C+ is rounded down to a C.

The reason you might see different grades for the same product is due to variations in how our AI model interprets certain health factors. Scientific opinions on ingredients like vegetable oils, for example, can vary. Some experts believe vegetable oils are negligible in their effects on health, while others argue they contribute to obesity. Our AI might sometimes align with the stricter view and grade a product containing vegetable oils as a C+, which appears as a C in the app. At other times, it might side with the more lenient perspective and give a B-, which appears as a B.

These fluctuations are a result of our AI trying to balance different scientific perspectives. Over time, these variations should average out, providing a balanced view of the product’s overall health grade.

One of the core assumptions of our app is that products are consumed in moderation. Anything can be harmful if consumed in excess. If you repeatedly consume a high-sugar product, its health impact would be worse. Our app assumes you are consuming these products in moderation, which affects the grading.

Additionally, there is a bit of common sense involved. For example, if you scan a candy, it might receive a higher grade than you expect because the app is comparing it to other candies. It assumes you already know that candy is generally unhealthy and compares the quality within that category. So, a candy might get a C instead of an F because it’s being compared to other candies, not to healthier foods. This way, the app helps you understand the relative healthiness within specific categories.

We do not recommend it. Health Inspecta is designed to be used for food and cosmetic products only.

Our app utilizes cutting-edge AI technology rather than a traditional product database,
ensuring dynamic and up-to-date analyses of food and personal care items. The AI at
the core of our app is powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT models. As such, our system’s
capabilities and knowledge base are enhanced in line with OpenAI’s schedule for
updating these models. This approach allows us to maintain the relevance and
accuracy of our health grades, adapting swiftly to new research, products, and health
trends without the need for manual database updates.

Our app is designed to be as accessible as possible, which is why we’ve made it
available on both iOS and Android platforms. This broad compatibility ensures that a
vast majority of smartphone users can easily download and start using our app,
regardless of their device type. By supporting the two most widely used mobile
operating systems, we aim to help users worldwide make informed decisions about their
food and personal care product choices, leveraging our advanced AI grading system.

To ensure your grades reflect your health goals accurately, please check your diet
preferences, unwanted ingredients, and evaluation metrics in the app settings. The app
is designed to notify you if a product violates any of your specified preferences, which
could lead to lower grades even for generally healthy products.

You can customize how your products are graded by adjusting your diet preferences,
unwanted ingredients, and the weighting of evaluation metrics in the settings. This
allows you to prioritize aspects most relevant to your health goals.

The General Health setting is designed for users seeking a balanced approach to health
without specific dietary restrictions. It applies a broad set of health criteria to product
grading.

In the “rewards” section, there is an option just below “how am I scored” where you can
set your main medal to reflect either your diet grades or your personal care product
grades exclusively. By default, your medal is an average of both unless changed.

Your medal reflects the average grades of the products you’ve logged, indicating your
adherence to your health and diet preferences. Products not logged will not impact your
medal but will still appear in your history.

Diet preferences allow you to select diets you adhere to, affecting your product grades.
For instance, vegan users will see lower grades for non-vegan products. Adjust your diet
preferences in the settings under “Diet Preferences.”

Unwanted ingredients are specific substances you wish to avoid in any product.
Products containing these ingredients will receive significantly lower grades. Manage
your unwanted ingredients in settings by selecting “Unwanted Ingredients.” Press on the
search bar and type in anything you don’t want in any of your products!

My Log tracks the food and personal care products you’ve decided to incorporate into
your daily life. It helps monitor your lifestyle progress based on the products you log.

All graded products can be found under “History” in the settings menu, offering a
comprehensive list of every product you’ve scanned for a grade.

No, the app provides opinions based on our research and is not intended as medical
advice.

This occurs when your 14-day free trial ends. A subscription is required to continue
accessing all features.

You can delete your account by navigating to “Delete My Account” in the settings menu.

Graphs display your progress by reflecting the grades of logged items over different
time periods, helping you track improvements or changes in your health journey.

Selecting multiple diet preferences is restricted when the diets contradict each other to
ensure the app’s guidance remains clear and applicable.

Subscription management, including purchase and cancellation, can be done through
“Subscription Management” in the settings.

Evaluation metrics determine how products are graded based on criteria you deem
important. Setting a criterion to “High” means it greatly influences the grade, “Medium”
for a moderate influence, “Low” for a minor influence, and “Off” to exclude it from
grading.

If the photo feature fails, use the manual search to type in the product’s name and still
receive a grade.

If you’ve graded a product but do not intend to use it, simply do not log it. Exiting out of
the product detail page without logging will ensure that the item does not influence your
progress tracking, stats, or medal scoring. Just press the back arrow.

The medal displayed throughout the app reflects your average diet and product choices
over all time by default. To adjust the time period it represents, navigate to “Rewards,”
scroll down to “Display Medal For,” and select your desired time frame. This feature
allows you to tailor the medal to reflect your progress over specific intervals, helping you
to monitor short-term goals or changes in your lifestyle more accurately.

Personal care products encompass a wide range of items, including cosmetics,
makeup, shampoo, body wash, sunscreen, and more. Essentially, if it’s a product related
to bodily care and hygiene, it falls under this category. Give it a try and grade it using our
app!

Yes, you can delete a mistakenly logged product. Go to “My Log,” click on the three dots
beside the item, and select “Delete.” This option also allows you to make any other
necessary changes to your logged items.

Absolutely! To edit details about a product you’ve logged, press the three dots next to
the item in “My Log.” This lets you update or correct any information as needed.

Not having a medal indicates that you’ve either just started using the app or your grades
are below a C, resulting in a participation ribbon instead of a medal. This is an
opportunity to reassess your product choices and improve your grades over time.
